Counter Thoughts - The Blog About Countertops

Can you put a hot pan on quartz?

A quartz countertop can sustain damage from excessive heat even though it is heat resistant. Up to 90% of quartz is used to make quartz countertops. Pigments and resin make up the remainder of the substance. Placing really hot objects, like a skillet straight from the oven, on the countertop may burn it and leave lasting damage because the resin can only sustain temperatures of about 150 degrees. When you accidentally set a hot skillet on a quartz countertop, you could immediately see scorch marks, which are often brown or yellow. The countertop is not necessarily destroyed as a result. It is a sign of a resin burn, which experts can typically repair, albeit not always. You may also observe that slightly warm pans and pots may cause some discoloration if left on the surface too long. The best way to preserve your new quartz countertops is to use trivets and coasters and to clean up any spills as soon as possible. Call us at Slabworks for all your countertop needs. 919-355-8484
